Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) heeft een aanvullende overeenkomst getekend met het Noorse Defensiemateriaalagentschap (Forsvarsmateriell) voor de lopende aanschaf van extra Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) voor levering aan de Noorse marine.
De waarde van het aanvullende contract is 487 miljoen Noorse kronen.
“KONGSBERG waardeert de sterke samenwerking met de FMA, en we kijken ernaar uit om de toonaangevende Naval Strike Missiles aan de Noorse marine te blijven leveren”, zegt Eirik Lie, President van Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
Het bedrijf voegde eraan toe op haar LinkedIn-account: “We zijn trots om bij te dragen aan de missiegereedheid van de Noorse marine en het nationale veiligheidskader te versterken. Een grote dank aan iedereen die betrokken is voor hun toewijding en harde werk”.
De antischipraketten worden ingezet aan boord van de zes Skjold-klasse korvetten en de vier Fridtjof Nansen-klasse fregatten van de Koninklijke Noorse Marine.
De Naval Strike Missile is een precisiewapen voor lange afstand dat vijandelijke schepen opspoort en vernietigt op afstanden groter dan 100 zeemijlen. Het maakt gebruik van inertie, GPS- en terreinreferentienavigatie en infrarood homing met beeldherkenning (met een doeldatabase aan boord van de raket).
De NSM is een zeer flexibel systeem dat kan worden gelanceerd vanaf verschillende platforms tegen verschillende doelen op zee en land.
Het lichte-ontwerp en de hoge stuwkracht-gewichtsverhouding geven de NSM een buitengewone manoeuvreerbaarheid. De raket is volledig passief en heeft zijn uitstekende vaardigheden om over zee te scheren bewezen, en met zijn geavanceerde terminale manoeuvres zal hij de luchtverdediging van de vijand overleven. De Autonome Doelherkenning (ATR) van het richtsysteem zorgt ervoor dat het juiste doel wordt gedetecteerd, herkend en geraakt, zowel op zee als op land.
De NSM is een anti-schipraket van de vijfde generatie, geproduceerd door Kongsberg, in de VS vertegenwoordigd door Raytheon. Nederland werd in december 2022 de 11e en nieuwste klant van de Naval Strike Missile en voegde zich bij de marines van Noorwegen, Polen, Maleisië, Duitsland, de Verenigde Staten (zowel de US Navy als het USMC), Roemenië, Canada, Australië, Spanje en het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
